Our Story

1. Where History Meets the "Kashmir of Bundelkhand"
Perched majestically in the heart of Charkhari—a town celebrated as the "Kashmir of Bundelkhand" and "Mini Vrindavan"—Fort Mangalgarh Palace stands as a timeless sentinel of Rajput grandeur. Surrounded by serene water bodies and ancient temples, our palace is more than a hotel; it is a living chronicle of royal valor, architectural brilliance, and an enduring symbol of love.
2. A Foundation Laid in Fortune (1734)
The saga of Mangalgarh began in 1734 when Jagat Raj, the illustrious son of the legendary Maharaja Chhatrasal, chose Ranjit Hill as the site for his stronghold. Legend tells of a successful hunt for the chakhar deer that led the King to this spot. Because the foundation was laid on a Mangalwar (Tuesday), the fort was christened Mangalgarh—the Fort of Auspiciousness.
3. The Golden Era of Architecture (1885–1895)
While the foundations were ancient, the palace reached its architectural zenith under the reign of Maharaja Malkhan Singh (the grandson of Maharaja Chhatrasal). Between 1885 and 1895, the structure was expanded into the palatial marvel seen today. Through the centuries, the halls of Mangalgarh have been graced by a lineage of noble rulers, including Maharaja Jujhar Singh, Maharaja Ganga Singh, Maharaja Arimardan Singh, and Maharaja Jayendra Singh.
4. The Land of Eternal Love
Fort Mangalgarh is not just a military bastion it is a site of deep cultural and historical significance. Fort Mangalgarh holds a unique place in the heart of Indian history as the sacred ground where the historic union of Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani was solemnized. This legacy of royal romance permeates the palace, as the palace has been restored to welcome guests seeking a blend of timeless charm and modern luxury. offering guests a rare opportunity to walk the same corridors where one of history’s greatest love stories was written.
5. A Visionary Restoration: The New Era
Once a defensive stronghold, the palace has been transformed into a boutique heritage hotel that preserves its grand walls and vibrant Bundelkhandi culture. After India’s independence, it remained with royal descendants Shree Jayant Singh and Shree Jayveer Singh, before its preservation was entrusted to Shri Ganga Charan Rajput—a distinguished leader, former Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member, and a proud Lodhi Rajput. Driven by his vision to revive the glory of Charkhari State, he restored Fort Mangalgarh to share the timeless charm of the “Kashmir of Bundelkhand” with the world.
6. Experience Royal Hospitality
Today, Fort Mangalgarh Palace has been thoughtfully converted into a boutique heritage hotel. Every effort has been made to preserve the original Bundelkhandi craftsmanship while integrating modern luxuries.
